This outfit incorporates some of my favorite pieces right now. I'm obsessed with these shoes, though they are much more the "sit-down-and-look-pretty" shoes than they are the "walk-about" shoes. I'm currently obsessed with the book I'm reading. If you want sexual intrigue, historical fiction, and misguided romanticism, then read The Bolter. It's the story of Idina Sackville, the temptress/lovelorn British goddess who inspired the Happy Valley Set (ever-so-scandalous) of Kenya. It's the best nonfiction read, I've ever read. Read it! This is the closest you'll ever see me get to Fourth of July attire. It really had nothing to do with Independence Day; it started with the shoes and developed a life unto it's own. Summer always reminds me of Jimmy Buffet (I'm a parakeet head which is a self-appointed position that I assigned due to my parents being Parrotheads). Since Independence Day is the epitomy of American summer experience (or at least it is for me), I grabbed a bottle of Riesling and crammed as many Jimmy Buffet CD's as I could into my CD player. In honor of my hero of leisure, I have included Margaritaville for your listening pleasure. Don't forget the contest! There is no excuse for my absence other than exhaustion that led to inexcusable laziness. I've been sleeping in and not giving a damn about what a wear, just trying to get through the year. The bad/good news? I'm done with school in less than two weeks and I don't have a full week for the rest of the year. I took a sick day today to sleep in, ride my bike, take an online course that I've need to take, and cleaned my house. Needless to say, I got a late start on the outfit; but I've purchased so many new and interesting pieces (including this headdress) that I need to get on here more and show you guys. So, I did today. Check out my latest musical fascination below. Thanks to National Public Radio for always keepin' it real and keeping me up-to-date on music. Gregory Alan Isakov and Brandi Carlile. Could I possibly salivate more?
A cold front is rolling through, so the afternoon descended into a dreary cloud cover. Tee: LA Made (via Anthropologie) Skirt: Faith 21 Leggings: Express Shoes: Forever 21 Jacket: Kohl's Fur Stole: Vintage from Ball Park Flea Market
And the latest love of my life: The Whitest Boy Alive
My outfit was inspired by the Cherry Blossom Girl's trip to the U.S. and Vintage Americana. I spent the evening the best way possible-- listening to four Mexicans chat about politics and social issues in Spanish. Some days I love my life! Dress: Faith 21 Shoes: Velvet Angels (shopbop) Bracelets: Vintage from Ball Park Flea Market (Catholic Saints bracelets) Glasses: Secondhand from garage sale (popped out the prescription lenses) Music obsession for the day (and inspiration for title of post):
On another note, I received this award from Little Violet Dress! Thank you, it totally made my day. Ok, so evidentally, I'm supposed to list seven interesting things about myself. Here goes.
1. I can recite (by heart) the first fifteen lines of The Canterbury Tales in middle English (the language in which it was originally written). 2. I speak Danish fluently. 3. I'm obsessively vain about my teeth. 4. I'm a writer. I mostly write creative nonfiction, though I have been known to venture into fiction now and again. 5. I was an exchange student in Denmark (hence, the speaking Danish bit). 6. I'm a complete ludite. I am refuse to learn anything about technology unless it directly serves my immediate needs (i.e. this blog). 7. I have experienced four sweats in a traditional Lakota sweat lodge. In fact, it is the only time that I have ever (truly) prayed.
I feel unstoppable today. My district interview went amazingly well. In fact, I do not believe that I have had a better interview in my entire life. To celebrate, I kept my business outfit on and went for some plum wine and sushi at my favorite sushi restaurant in town. Though I was not looking forward to wearing such a conventional outfit, I believe now that it contributed to my interviewing prowess this morning. I'm still wearing the pearls eventhough I stripped down and pulled on some yoga pants. I just can't get enough of the residual power. Then again, I listened to The Pierces "Lights On" all the way out to the interview, which probably contributed to the goddess aura I was exuding.
