Laundry Day

I found these awesomely retro washing accoutrements abandoned behind my favorite liquor store yesterday. I just prayed they'd still be here today, and much to my surprise, they were.
So, so much for restraining the real Carly at work. I busted out one of my craziest pairs of shoes today (only my fourth day of work). The thing I love about these shoes is that there are major dividends involved. I bought them thinking that I'd get a lot of ridicule from most of the world and incredible adoration from the fahsion world. Strangely enough, I have not had a negative comment about these shoes. Everyone (and I do mean everyone) raves about these shoes. It's almost startling how many compliments I get.
It's interesting that people at work have already pegged me as "the fashion girl" with "so many shoes" who is "more comfortable in skirts and dresses than jeans." Evidentally, I'm quite transparent.

Accidental

Had kind of an exhausting day today (and it definitely shows in my face).
This skirt is a little big on me so I threw the belt on simply to keep it up. The skirt doesn't have belt loops so I was struggling with trying to keep it hidden in the belt. Then, I decided "Why not let the skirt bloom out of the top like a cream puff?" I liked the effect, though I'm sure some would disagree.

Every day is different in my new job and today I ran into a friend of the girl I used to date. I adore this girl and it was so great to reconnect.

vamp

I had this outfit in mind a long time ago for my teaching job. I decided it should debut today.
It was happenstance that I shook hands with my superintendent today. I was coming back from the bathroom during a break in our training and I noticed this man in a suit walking down the same side of the hall as me. I slid over to make room and he came straight at me with his arm extended in a ready handshake postion. Then, he proceeded to ask me where I was teaching and whether it was my first year or not. I was so taken aback that it took me a few minutes to realize that he was my super intendent. Weird!

Happy New Year

Today is the first day of my new year. It was overwhelming and exciting all at the same time. I usually start any new teaching endeavor dressing pretty conservatively and hiding the tattoos. Then, I give my staff a couple of weeks to get to know me before they get to know the fashion (and tatted me). This is my conservative outfit. I ended up having to forget the no tattoos rule, as it was really hot in the media center where I spent most of my day.
So, I was driving home today and I realized that three major things are impacted every time I embark on a new life change. The first is that I consume more wine (to calm the nerves); second, I buy more clothing (to make me feel better); third, I almost always get a tattoo (also, to make me feel better, but in that "hurts so good way").
I've been nursing a glass of wine for the past couple of days, I've purchased eight new dresses, and I'm planning on getting a new tattoo as soon as I can make it to the tattoo parlor (friday maybe?). Needless to say, life changes are an expensive time for this girl.

Bonafide Sex Appeal

Tattoos and bleach blonde hair never looked sexier. Cameron Diaz has never been an icon for me. She is now!

We're Camping in a Corner of the Room

My outfit was inspired by the Cherry Blossom Girl's trip to the U.S. and Vintage Americana.
I spent the evening the best way possible-- listening to four Mexicans chat about politics and social issues in Spanish. Some days I love my life!

Shoes: Velvet Angels (shopbop)
Bracelets: Vintage from Ball Park Flea Market (Catholic Saints bracelets)

Music obsession for the day (and inspiration for title of post):

On another note, I received this award from Little Violet Dress! Thank you, it totally made my day.

Ok, so evidentally, I'm supposed to list seven interesting things about myself. Here goes.

1. I can recite (by heart) the first fifteen lines of The Canterbury Tales in middle English (the language in which it was originally written).
2. I speak Danish fluently.
3. I'm obsessively vain about my teeth.
4. I'm a writer. I mostly write creative nonfiction, though I have been known to venture into fiction now and again.
5. I was an exchange student in Denmark (hence, the speaking Danish bit).
6. I'm a complete ludite. I am refuse to learn anything about technology unless it directly serves my immediate needs (i.e. this blog).
7. I have experienced four sweats in a traditional Lakota sweat lodge. In fact, it is the only time that I have ever (truly) prayed.

Now, it is my turn to tag seven people.
I tag:
Daisy Chain Dreams
Fashion, Love, and Martinis
Dear. Diary Manuel Navarro
The Fashion Therapist
The Femme Hinterland

Panic Room

Today has been a less than perfect day. I report for my new teaching job a week from today and I suffering some pretty severe anxiety over it. I couldn't sleep last night, and when I finally fell asleep, my dreams were convoluted and eery. Sometimes, I catch myself not breathing because I'm too busy freaking out about the unknown. Teaching is scarier than any other job out there, as far as I'm concerned. What other entry level job gives you nearly boundless freedoms and responsibilities on the first day? I'm obsessing about everything from how to arrange my classroom to every possible scenario for my first day.
Anyway, I didn't feel up for getting dressed today, so I went shopping instead. Shoes are notorious for making me feel better than any other purchase in the world. Hence, my trip to Nordstrom Rack and these lovelies. I love the putrid green color. So spectacular!
I am also stuffing my nose in a young adult literature series. The book I am reading is called Knocked Out by My Nunga-Nungas. Sometimes I get so consumed with reading all the classics that I forget how fun and sweet young adult literature can be. This one is particularly great because, while the author feigns commiserating with her angst-filled teen heroine, she also is blatantly making fun of her.

Also, a quick reminder about the contest with chic downtown.
