Off to Iowa
Tristan Prettyman-Madly
I am headed Iowa until the third of January. I will be taking photos, but seeing as my grandparents don't even have an answering machine, much less internet, I probably will not be able to post them until I return.
Today, I am running around like a crazy lady, trying to get everything together and since I am traveling, the outfit is quite simple. I really like the blue, though, and it makes me feel quite special.

The Treasure Trove
Do you remember the fur that I posted about a couple of weeks ago? Well, I told my mother about it and she thought that it was completely ridiculous that I would spend that much on a vintage fur. Then, she mentioned that my grandmother might have one of her mother's vintage fur coats down in her basement. She promised to ask my grandma about it when she picked her up for the holidays. Turns out, she had two mink stoles and a beaver coat. I was not sure about the beaver coat at first, but with enough stroking, I gradually fell to pieces for it. She asked me for $100 for them and I thought that that was pretty fair. The beaver coat is the coat in the lower lefthand side of the picture and the lighter stole on the lower righthand side is more like a cape. Finally, the middle stole was my grandmother's (the other two were my great grandmother's) and it is more of a true stole style.
Yesterday's Shopping
I went to sell some of my unused shoes at a secondhand store in town and, while waiting, I found these two pairs of shoes. They are clearly not appropriate for the current temperatures, but they'll be great in the summer.
I really liked the criss-cross of these shoes and the funky little heel.
These are a pair of Forever 21 shoes that are on sale at the website, but that I still wasn't sure about. When I saw them for $8, I decided I couldn't not get them. I see these little coral beauties on a boat paired with a pin up style swimsuit and not much else.

Taking Grandma Home
Broadcast-Black Cat
Today, I acccompanied my mother to take my grandmother back to Colorado Springs. Believe me, there was something in it for me. Photos to come...
I've been waiting for the perfect outfit with which to wear this Express snow leopard coat, which is a neurosis of mine. I build the piece up so much that nothing quite satisfies my expectations. So, to combat my neurotic tendencies, I just wore it with a pretty middle of the road outfit. The coat is really beautiful but it does shed a bit, which is a little obnoxious.

Essential Christmas Gifts
Here are some of my Christmas gifts that are fashion and/or photography related. I am elated!
This is a Cashmere blend yarn that I asked my sister to make a beautiful pink scarf with.
My sister also made me a hat from the left over yarn from that cowl scarf I mentioned earlier.
The most incredible, intricate vintage necklace from my grandmother.
This is my new, fancy, and super light tripod that will prevent further camera injuries.
And this is my new cool tripod that can wrap around trees and poles and can fit even into some of my clutches. My brother gave me this and I am thrilled! The picture taking opportunities are endless.
And for the grand finale, this is the cowl neck scarf my sister made for me. The knit is so heavy and it's way cool. I'm going to Iowa to visit my dad's family for New Years and we're traveling with only carry-ons to facilitate the holiday traveling. This will be one of my staple pieces for the four days that I am there, as it is freezing in Iowa right now and this piece is so unbelievably unique.

Stirrup Tights
Patti Smith-Kimberly
I'm venturing into the colored tights again and I simply love these ones. They don't give the lovehandle hangover that I usually dread. Also, the white top is actually a dress that I hardly ever wear because it is completely see-through. I like its effect, though, so I decided to wear it as a top and just let my black bra show through.
Oh! Also, I have some seriously cool boots that I'm bidding on on ebay. One of them is a pair of tan over the knee boots. I've been dying for some over the knee boots for a long time, but haven't found the perfect pair. I think these are them. Then, I've got some seriously sweet cowboy boots and a pair of bohemian style slide-on boots that I'm bidding on from the same seller. I'm crossing my fingers.

Rosary
Regina Spektor-Us
I really wanted to wear these neon green shoes again, but struggled with a different way of wearing them. Hence the plaid pants. I'd kind of forgotten about these pants that I bought early on in my blogging "career." I like the effect because it has two benefits. One: I'm wearing the shoes in a less "sex pot" fashion; and two: I feel like I never know how to wear pants in a fun manner. Also, you might want to look at the brooch. It's completely scandalous and it's hands down my favorite brooch ever.
Also, I fell down the stairs last night and sprained two of my fingers. I'm grateful that that's all that hurts because it could have been much worse. But, oh, my fingers ache. I feel like an old woman. It will probably take a week for them to finally get better. I'm also using my "injury" as an excuse to lay on the couch, watch movies and cuddle my sister's puppy.

Dessert Party
Rachael Yamagata-Elephants
I went to a dessert party that some family friends had hosted last night. I kind of had a rough day with some unpleasantness so I really didn't feel like going. It seems that my over-abundant holiday merriment is wilting and I mostly feel moody and exhausted. Have no fear! My optimism will not wait long at the gate and I will post much more chipper posts soon enough.

So sorry
... for the long hiatus. I just took the no-camera situation as a hint that maybe I should live a little more of my life in the real world for a while. It's surprising how excited/wrapped up one gets in blogging when you really love your subject matter. Anyway, I've been out in the real world and doing some serious shopping, eating, drinking, etc. This photo is a similar rendering of the cowl scarf that my sister is making for me for Christmas. My dear friend Manuel Navarro of Manuel Navarro Design turned me onto this scarf when he sent me an e-mail notifying me about this seller, Yokoo, on etsy. Since I will probably never be able to justify spending $115 on a scarf, I commissioned my sister, the crocheting guru, to make me a cowl scarf like this one in a better color. After she made me try it on probably 30 times, she took it away without giving me the opportunity to take a picture with my camera phone. It's just as well, since my phone would not do the scarf any justice. When I open it on Christmas Day (and put on my faux surprised face), I will get pictures up on the blog so all my readers can be painfully jealous. I also anticipate that I will be getting a new camera for Christmas, so expect exhorbitant amounts of photos from Christmas Day. Sorry, I can't help myself.

Outstanding
I found this tattoo corset while searching for tatoo-printed tights on etsy. If you are a size 18 and can dish out the $180, please buy it. I love it and I want someone to have it. The seller is Vio Gemini Designs and they have other equally unique pieces.
Necessity Really IS the Mother of Invention
Modest Mouse-Ocean Breathes Salty
I had a creative writing professor tell me once that cliches were cliches for a reason... because they're true. This is definitely the case for my camera phone. Because my camera is broken, I figured out how to take pictures with my camera phone. It has a self-timer, but I still haven't figured it out, so I had to use these mirror photos. The picture quality is not great, but it's something.
Still on the legging kick, as you can see. Also, this is the thrifted fur that I got for a dollar at Goodwill on Friday.

Adele
Adele-Chasing Pavements
For someone who claims to be plus sized, I don't acknowledge my size much on this blog. And, actually, had I not been curious about what the sublime musician Adele looked like, I probably would never have found out that she is a plus-sized artist in a world of increasingly shrinking musical waifs. I've drawn a lot of beauty inspiration from these photos. Her hair and make-up are remarkable and I fully anticipate that I will doing a bit of a copy cat act.
